Support / Volunteer

Take action.

Are you interested in becoming more involved with the farm and our Health Care Share Program? Join our new Community Crew! This crew will meet on Thursdays from 9am – 12pm. Volunteering with our Community Crew is a hands-on way to support food security in Vermont while connecting with others and spending time outside. Whether you’re planting, harvesting, or packing fresh vegetables, your work directly contributes to the Health Care Share, which provides food to Vermonters experiencing food insecurity or diet-related illness.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn sustainable farming skills in a fun and supportive environment. As a Community Crew volunteer, you will also be able to earn City Market Member Worker hours or Hunger Mountain Member Volunteer hours to receive discounts on groceries. As a member of the crew, you will also receive access to fresh vegetables from our farm stand.

  • Get outside, get your hands dirty, and learn new skills.
  • Work together and build connections with others.
  • Experience the reward of growing food to support food security in Vermont.
  • Fulfill City Market Member Worker hours (if applicable)

Every volunteer session starts with a warm welcome, an introduction to the farm, and a quick tour before diving into a hands-on project. Depending on the season, tasks may include:

  • Spring: Seeding, planting, greenhouse work, preparing fields
  • Fall: Harvesting, washing produce, packing Health Care Shares, food preservation

We host high school and college groups looking for hands-on learning and community service experience.

  • Engage in hands-on learning—discover the process of growing food from seed to harvest
  •  Connect with your peers—work together on meaningful farm projects
  • Experience a day in the life of a VYCC youth crew member

Each school visit begins with a circle-up to introduce the farm, our mission, and the day’s projects. We will provide a brief farm tour and then jump into hands-on farm tasks. If your class curriculum aligns with food systems, sustainability, or community health, let us know—we’re happy to explore customizing the volunteer experience to explore these topics with your students!

Trade in your desk for a day on the farm! Volunteering with your colleagues is a fun, active, and rewarding way to:

  • Strengthen teamwork—work together to accomplish farm tasks.
  • Challenge yourselves—engage in a hands-on experience outside the office.
  • Give back to the community—help fight food insecurity in Vermont.

At the end of the day, your team will walk away feeling accomplished, inspired, and more connected—both to each other and to the greater community.
