Of 6 Million Young Adults, Do You Know One?
February 8, 2017 |
Do you know a young adult who is out of school and out of work? S/he is not alone – there are 6 million young adults in the US who are seeking their next opportunity. VYCC is part of a national effort led by AmeriCorps to address widespread youth unemployment. Through our partnership with AmeriCorps, we provide young adults with a powerful experience that offers training, an education award, and meaningful service. The program is going strong, and we welcome your help to connect young Vermonters with this great opportunity.
AmeriCorps Crews exemplify the “VYCC experience” – small teams of young people, living and working on Vermont’s public lands. AmeriCorps Crews are for young adults, age 18+, and focus on specific projects: Parks Restoration Crews offer advanced carpentry experiences; Assessment Crews study erosion and trail conditions; and US Forest Service Crews improve trails, campgrounds, and ecosystems throughout the Green Mountain National Forest. These crews also assist with watershed improvement projects across the state.
No prior experience or special skills are needed. We fully train Members to do this job, which will prepare them for future jobs. Help a young person start their next outdoor community service adventure on April 5 or June 17. Send them here!
