Reconstrunction of the Barn
Meet Our Builders
For an organization that specializes in labor, the people that are physically designing and building the project mean the world. This project is committed to using local talent and materials. In addition to local contractors, designers, and suppliers, VYCC crews have played an instrumental role in construction. Meet our crew!

Reap Construction (Richmond) Bob and Joy Reap are the construction managers for the last phases including the exterior work, the carriage barn addition, and the interior work. See their website.
Birdseye Building & Design (Richmond) Birdseye guided the VYCC through the initial planning and design and helped the organization better understand its needs. Their vision has been a guiding force in all subsequent phases of the project. Brian Mac, the lead Architect, is a past VYCC Crew Leader and Mark Bromley was a past YCC Leader. Their intimate knowledge of the program, design expertise, and overall enthusiasm were instrumental in getting the project off the ground.
Gary Bressor and Dan Martin (Richmond, Richmond) Gary and Dan have both worked extensively with the stone foundation, including working with VYCC crews.
Steve Libby of Conservation Planning Associates in Richmond. Steve was the RLT Project Manager and worked on the deconstruction and reconstruction of the barn.
Bob Marquis, S.T. Griswold (Richmond, Hinesburg) Together, these concrete contractors completed the new foundation for the barn, including working with VYCC crews.
Jan Lewandowski (Greensboro Bend) Jan and his crew are some of the most experienced historic timber framers in all of New England. They deconstructed the barn and reconstructed the timber frame.
Ward Clapboard Company (Moretown) Ward is one of only two companies in northern New England that still mills spruce quarter-sawn clapboard.
Bill Preston, Wright Preston, and Joel Currier (Richmond, Richmond, Danville respectively) Together, these three supplied all of the new logs needed for the frame (many were re-used from the original structure). Bill milled most of the logs onsite with his portable sawmill.
John Gaye, John Frymoyer, and Richard McCauley (Essex, Burlington) Together, these three volunteers reconstructed the cupola for the barn.
Rice Lumber (Shelburne) Rice provided all of the exterior trim for the barn.
Windows and Doors by Brownell (Williston) Les Brownell and his team supplied the windows for the entire project.
