Volunteers
Current Needs:
Volunteers needed for Monitor Barn
As we wrap up construction at the Monitor Barn and get our landscaping done the VYCC needs Volunteers to help with landscape maintenance. If you have an interest in helping with lawn care and flower bed maintenance on a regular basis or have other skills that you think would be helpful, please contact Kristen Kozik at
or 802.434.3969 Ext. 113
Ongoing needs:
Training Center Volunteers
The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps Headquarters recent move into our new facility at the West Monitor Barn in Richmond has created a need for volunteer help on a year-round basis. Many opportunities exist to help with facilities and grounds maintenance as well as facility development and construction. There is a need for volunteers on a one-time or an ongoing basis.
Some potential projects include: planting/tending flower beds, helping with spring cleaning of our historic structure, completing construction clean-up, and assisting with small and medium scale construction projects.
We have a need for skilled volunteers to complete finish painting, build shelves in our office space, and build furniture out of salvaged wood from the renovations of our historic structure. If you are interested in volunteering some of your time, please contact Kristen Kozik at or call 802.434.3969 Ext. 113.
Program Volunteers
The VYCC has a need for assistance in many operational aspects of our program. Some potential projects include delivering care packages to crews, helping at the start-up of our sessions, and helping with pre- and post-season preparation and close-out. If you have an interest in giving some of your time to assist program staff in support of our field-based crews please contact Brian Cotterill at brian@vycc.org or call 802.434.3969 x132.
Guest Speakers
The VYCC's goal is to incorporate learning into every aspect of the Corps Member experience. To help meet this goal, each crew is visited by professionals who share their expertise with the crew. The goal is to expose Corps Members to a wide variety of careers, occupations, and ideas and to emphasize the importance of the natural environment.
Examples of people who have shared their knowledge with crews include: wildlife biologists, a past Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) member, Peace Corps volunteers, a Green Mountain Club Ridge Patroller from Mt. Mansfield, Naturalists, Writers, ornithologists, the Director of State Parks, Regional Foresters, Fish and Game Wardens, representatives from Sterling College, and the Vermont AmeriCorps Director.
If you have the time and the desire to share your experiences and/or career with a crew, they would love to host you. Please contact us at or call 802.434.3969 to be added to our educational resources database. Crews will be provided with this information and if a crew is based near you, a visit will likely be scheduled.
