Admission Policies

Corps Member Positions

  • Corps Member applicants must be 16-24
  • Out-of-state applicants must be at least 18
  • Park Corps Members must be at least 17
  • International applicants are not eligible

In addition, VYCC strives to create unique and diverse crews. The VYCC seeks Corps Members of varied interests and talents, representing many social, economic, and geographical backgrounds. Admission is not limited by race, gender, or sexual orientation of the applicant.

On every VYCC Crew you can find Corps Members from a variety of locations around Vermont, from a variety of different high schools and colleges, and with varying life experiences. In choosing Corps Members, we take into consideration the application, letters of recommendation, VYCC phone interviews, and the ability of the Corps Member to benefit from our program.

VYCC fills Corps Member positions on a rolling basis beginning in late-April. Preference is given to early and complete applications.

AmeriCorps Member Conservation and Community Leadership Program

  • Must be at least 18
  • International applicants are not eligible
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Dedication and commitment to national service
  • Must be willing to serve long hours and travel to various parts of the country if needed
  • Strong interest in a residential environmental and disaster recovery/mitigation related service program
  • Must enjoy working with the public
  • Customer service, grounds maintenance, basic accounting, and environmental interpretation skills are a plus

In addition, the CCL Program requires participants to be flexible individuals who have a strong desire to live and work with a diverse group of young people in a residential setting. Participants must be able to work effectively as a team, as well as independently.

Finally, the CCL Program seeks individuals interested in exploring and developing their leadership skills in a variety of settings.

VYCC fills CCL positions on a rolling basis beginning in early January. Preference is given to early applicants.

Crew Leader Positions (Summer and CCL)

  • Must be at least 20 years of age for Assistants, 22 years of age for Crew Leaders
  • International applicants must submit an application by January 31, 2008
  • Good driving record and a valid driver's license required
  • Red Cross Standard First Aid/CPR or equivalent (Wilderness First Aid required for Wilderness Leaders)

We are looking for adult leaders who are ready for a challenge and enjoy working with young people as teachers, mentors, supervisors, and role models. Excellent leadership is the most crucial factor in determining a crew's success. The level of professionalism, motivation, and sense of community on the crew is a reflection of the strength of the crew's leadership.

In the process of completing an application for a Vermont Youth Conservation Corps position or requesting a service from the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps, you are asked to submit additional information. Information collected on Vermont Youth Conservation Corps applications will be used and shared with our agency partners to ensure successful selection, placement, and fielding of Vermont Youth Conservation Corps Members and Leaders.
