Admission Policies

Corps Member Positions

  • Corps Member applicants must be between 16 and 24
  • Out-of-state applicants must be at least 18
  • Park Program Corps Members must be at least 17
  • International applicants are not eligible

The VYCC strives to create unique and diverse crews. Therefore we seek Corps Members of varied interests and talents, representing many social, economic, and geographical backgrounds. Admission is not limited by race, gender, or sexual orientation of the applicant.

On every VYCC Crew you can find Corps Members from a variety of locations around Vermont, from many different high schools and colleges, and with varying life experiences. In choosing Corps Members, we take into consideration the application, letters of recommendation, VYCC phone interviews, and the ability of the Corps Member to benefit from our program.

The VYCC begins reviewing applications for Corps Member positions in January, and continues hiring through late June.

Park Program AmeriCorps Member Positions

  • 18+ encouraged
  • 17 yrs. old in pursuit or possession of a HS diploma or equivalent may be considered
  • Must enjoy working with the public
  • International applicants are not eligible
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Dedication and commitment to national service
  • Must be willing to serve long hours and travel to various parts of the country if needed to perform disaster relief
  • Strong interest in a residential environmental and disaster recovery/mitigation related service
  • Open to living and working in a creatively structured community
  • Customer service, grounds maintenance, basic accounting, and environmental interpretation skills are a plus

In addition, the Park Program requires participants to be flexible individuals who have a strong desire to live and work with a diverse group of young people in a residential setting. Participants must be able to work effectively as a team, as well as independently.

Crew Leader Positions (Wilderness, Roving, Community, and Park)

  • 22 years of age
  • International applicants must submit an application by December 31, 2008 for the Park program or January 31, 2009 for a Wilderness, Roving, or Community position
  • Good driving record and a valid driver's license required
  • Red Cross Standard First Aid/CPR or equivalent (Wilderness First Aid required for Wilderness Leaders)

We are looking for adult leaders who are ready for a challenge and enjoy working with young people as teachers, mentors, supervisors, and role models. Excellent leadership is the most crucial factor in determining a crew's success. The level of professionalism, motivation, and sense of community on the crew is a reflection of the strength of the crew's leadership.

The VYCC fills Crew Leader and AmeriCorps Member positions on a rolling basis beginning in early January. Preference is given to early applicants.

Applications

In the process of completing an application for a VYCC position or requesting a service from the VYCC, you are asked to submit additional information. Information collected on VYCC applications will be used and shared with our agency partners to ensure successful selection, placement, and fielding of VYCC Corps Members and Leaders.
