Green Mountain Internships

gmi change Green Mountain Internships (GMI) specializes in custom-made matches between students and employers.

We make matches through our extensive network of Green organizations, schools, technical centers, work and community based programs, alumni, and existing VYCC programs.  GMI places students with Green technology, socially responsible, and environmentally aware organizations across Vermont.  On average, internships last 12 weeks and interns work 5 days a week for 2-4 hours a day.  Summer internship placements are also made for 32-40 hours per week.

Participants engage in a customized work-based learning experience which builds upon areas of study and individual interest.  A Green Mountain Internship distinguishes itself in the following ways.

1)  Focus on placing student interns in new and emerging Green organizations, technology fields and in traditional trades where green initiatives are being applied.

2)  Demonstrates on the part of the intern and employer, a commitment to sustainability, waste reduction, and energy conservation.

3)  Incorporates credit earning opportunities for the student through an in-depth green work force experience.

4)  Create real workplace expectations and consequences, and provide a process that measures progress toward mastery of skills, positive attitude, behavior, and sense of responsibility.

GMI staff develops and monitors placements ensuring that educational and workplace performance criteria are met, working with both host and student to answer questions, facilitate evaluation, and assure the highest possible quality.
