Community Crews
Community Crews offer Corps Members the opportunity make a positive impact by completing projects in their very own hometown!
Community Crews are non-residential and typically consist of eight Corps Members and two Crew Leaders that work as a team to improve alternative transportation routes, such as bike and pedestrian paths, and to enhance local natural areas. They may also learn innovative bio-engineering techniques to restore rivers and streams that have been adversely affected by erosion and pollution.
Community Crews are based in several towns throughout Vermont and Corps Members need to commute to the crew base each day. Community Corps Members work Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with time set aside for breaks, WoRD, and lunch.

In July, Community Crew Corps Members will participate in an overnight Leadership Retreat at the VYCC Headquarters in Richmond, Vermont. At this retreat, Corps Members will identify projects in their local communities that they are passionate about and want to take action on. The crew will complete these projects in the final week of their session. This week of unpaid community service is a culmination of thoughtful identification and planning with each other and outside community members. Many schools will offer community service credit for this week.
These crews are made possible through a variety of partnerships with federal, state, and local project sponsors and offer Corps Members an opportunity to improve and care for the resources in their local community.
Community Crew Leaders live on their own (room and board are not provided), commute to their worksite during the week, and have nights and weekends free. They meet their crew each morning at their tool storage area and drive to the worksite in a VYCC van.
