VYCC / AmeriCorps Conservation and Community Leadership Program

Overview and Purpose: The mission of the VYCC-AmeriCorps Conservation and Community Leadership Program (CCL) is to teach effective leadership, community-living, and job skills through active stewardship and service to Vermont's state parks, lands, and communities. CCL Crews offer Members an opportunity to live and work together on a variety of high-priority conservation, disaster mitigation/recovery, and public service projects throughout Vermont. Throughout their five or six-month term, CCL Members actively focus on developing personal leadership, community living, and job skills through on-going training, the completion of high-priority projects, and critical reflection.

Throughout first portion of their five or six-month term, CCL Members actively focus on developing personal leadership, community living, and job skills through on-going training and critical reflection while working as a the member of a crew in a Vermont State Park. The second portion of the program will allow CCL Members to put their leadership development into action. Members will take on full leadership responsibility for a group of their peers while working on VYCC conservation projects throughout the state. Upon completion of their project Members will be evaluated on their leadership style and technique by their peers and VYCC Headquarters Staff.

CCL projects vary from state park management to water quality projects to public service aimed at meeting a community or national need. Participants live in park housing during the summer and late fall, and may camp out during the late spring and early fall.
