There are a variety of ways of partnering with us in the fight against hunger. Purchasing a Summer Share, Fall Share, or Holiday Harvest Basket at the Farm will not only provide you with fresh, local produce, it also supports the Farm’s mission to produce healthy food for local families, area schools, and food shelves. You may also support our Youth Development and Food Assistance initiatives by becoming a Cultivating Shareholder, purchasing a Holiday Harvest Basket for a family in need, or by getting involved with our Health Care Share.
You are going to love the changes we’ve made to our Summer CSA! This year our Summer Members you will not only receive a weekly share of vegetables during the peak of the growing season, you will also be able to buy organic produce and pastured poultry at our Monitor Barns Farm Stand and at our Farmer’s Markets anytime throughout the 2012 season!
Here is how it works:
A Summer Share is only $450 for the entire 2012 season. $250 of that will pay for a “Base Share” of your favorite summer vegetables for a 12 week season (July –September). Each week, as you enjoy your delicious produce, you will also benefit from the satisfaction of eating local, while partnering in our youth development and food security endeavors.
Pick Your Own Garden (PYO)
In addition to your weekly share of the harvest, we carefully plant and cultivate a pick-your-own garden with flowers, herbs, beans, peas, cherry tomatoes, exotic veggies, and more. The Health Care Share is a season of freshly harvested vegetables provided weekly to families in need of food assistance. Our primary goal is to produce a consistent mix of veggies that are nutritious, familiar to most people, and easy to use. The season is 12 weeks long starting in July and lasting through September.
Recipients of the Health Care Share are considered to be Summer CSA Members and will receive all member benefits including: weekly newsletter with farm updates and recipes; access to our Pick Your Own Garden (PYO); and the option to purchase Flexible Farm Bucks that can be used at our Farm Stand or Farmer’s Market. Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards will also be accepted at these locations at a 10% discount.
The farm at VYCC will partner with local food shelves and Health Care Professionals to publicize the program and identify potential recipient families. Food shelves can also play a role in distribution, as they may be likely become convenient pick up locations.
Terms of CSA Membership
Part of the benefit of CSA membership is sharing in the bounty of a plentiful harvest year and early crops that great weather can produce. We will do our best to make sure each share is provided its full value in vegetables and poultry. On the other side of the coin, CSA members must also understand that despite the best planning, crop failure and bad weather does happen. By purchasing a CSA Membership you agree to share in this risk with the farmer.
